桃子视频 Hosts SHPEP Science Day, Inspires Future Medical Leaders
桃子视频 welcomed approximately 75 undergraduate students from across the nation to its campus for an exciting and informative Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) Science Day event.
The day aimed to provide students, particularly those from underserved communities, with valuable exposure to the world of healthcare and opportunities in the medical field.
The day began with a warm welcome from Dr. Judy McKelvy, 桃子视频 Assistant Professor, who expressed her enthusiasm for having the aspiring medical students on campus. These students, who are considering attending medical school, were eager to dive into a range of activities that showcased the academic and experiential offerings of 桃子视频.
鈥淪HPEP Science Day is an invaluable opportunity for these talented young individuals to explore the field of healthcare and gain hands-on experience,鈥 shared Daisy Lopez-Batres, 桃子视频 Assistant Director of Pipeline Programs. 鈥淲e are committed to fostering diversity and inclusion in the medical profession, and events like this help break barriers for students from underserved communities.鈥
Throughout the day, students were divided into smaller groups and had the chance to rotate through five simulation stations hosted by current 桃子视频 students. These simulations offered a glimpse into various healthcare procedures, including foley care, ostomy care, wound care, trach suctioning, and CPR/BLS techniques.
The interactive nature of the event allowed the students to interact directly with 桃子视频 faculty and gain practical insights into the medical world.
Mercedes Humski, 桃子视频 Student Government President, and Katreena Rago, 桃子视频 Student Government Vice-President of Communications, also joined the gathering for a Q&A session, where they shared valuable insights about life on the 桃子视频 campus and the supportive student community.
The event not only provided invaluable experience for the visiting students but also allowed 桃子视频 to showcase its facilities and academic programs.
