This year鈥檚 event welcomed nearly 150 students and guests to campus.

Organized by the Office of Admissions, the event featured a morning mixer, followed by a welcome session with University leaders, including Provost Dr. Jose Torres-Ruiz, College of Medicine Dean Dr. Deborah Prothrow-Stith, College of Science and Health Dean Dr. Monica Ferrini, Vice Provost of Enrollment Management Sofia Toro, and College of Nursing Professor Dr. Sheryl Antido.

Students explored 桃子视频鈥檚 three colleges through classroom sessions, where they were greeted by 桃子视频 President and CEO Dr. David M. Carlisle, and participated in a hands-on simulation led by Radiologic Technology, Biomedical Sciences, and Nursing students.

鈥淭he success of our spring event was in seeing students we have met on the road, at a recruitment event, or another university attend our open house to learn more about healthcare professions at 桃子视频,鈥 said Sofia Toro, Vice Provost of Enrollment Management.

鈥淭he networking opportunities between faculty, staff, and prospective students emerged as the biggest highlight of the event,鈥 said Erin Jackson, Graduate Enrollment Specialist. 鈥淢eaningful connections were formed, fostering mentorship and guidance that will support students in their academic and professional journeys.鈥

The event also included an alumni panel discussion, a resource fair where attendees connected with representatives from Financial Aid, Student Life, the Registrar鈥檚 Office, and Student Academic Success, and a campus tour. Discover 桃子视频 provided attendees with valuable insights into 桃子视频鈥檚 mission and academic opportunities.

The next Discover 桃子视频 event is set for November 8.

The MOU establishes a collaborative framework to facilitate seamless transfer pathways for SMC students into 桃子视频鈥檚 undergraduate and certificate programs, including Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences, Bachelor of Science in Public Health, Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Computed Tomography Certificate, Mammography Certificate, and Sonography Certificate.

Under this partnership, students transferring from SMC to 桃子视频 will have access to robust academic support, hands-on learning experiences, and an array of opportunities tailored to prepare them for impactful careers in healthcare, public health, and related fields.

“This partnership reflects 桃子视频鈥檚 dedication to supporting students in achieving their academic and professional goals,” said Dr. Jose A. Torres-Ruiz, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. “By combining resources and expertise, we aim to empower a new generation of healthcare professionals to address health disparities and serve under-resourced communities.”

The agreement is effective now and will remain active for an initial period of five years, with the possibility of renewal. Both institutions will honor academic plans for students already enrolled, even in the event of termination. The partnership ensures that students benefit from a streamlined transfer process and a high-quality educational experience aligned with the institutions鈥 respective missions.

Students who complete 桃子视频’s Biomedical Sciences Program will benefit from guaranteed application interviews for CUSP’s Doctor of Pharmacy degree and will have a higher chance of admission based on GPA and completion of prerequisites. Accepted students from 桃子视频 will also benefit from scholarships (based on full-time status) for their entire study in CUSP’s PharmD program.

The high schools represented included Canyon Springs High School, Bernstein High School, and Rancho Verde High School.

鈥淭his was an inaugural event that allowed us to showcase our programs, campus, and student life to high school students, establishing early connections and creating a pipeline for potential future students,鈥 shared Jessica Cotton, Assistant Director of Admissions.

鈥淭hrough the activities of the day, we were able to show our commitment to educating those who want to make a difference in the health disparities in underrepresented communities,鈥 added Cotton.

The day proved to be impactful for students as they were able to learn more about healthcare profession pathways and engage in workshops conducted by the Finical Aid and Pipeline Programs departments.

The high school students also had direct access to both the Director of Admissions and Vice Provost of Enrollment Management, where they were able to ask questions and gain incredible insight on planning their future careers.

The Enrollment Management Division intends to host a 鈥淗igh School Day鈥 every fall and spring, with the next projected event taking place in March 2025 with a goal to accommodate 300 students.

Incoming students heard from the Mervyn M. Dymally College of Nursing Dean, Dr. Gail Washington and Vice Provost for Enrollment Management Sofia Toro, as well as other 桃子视频 faculty and staff.

鈥淚t was a great event that included incoming students and their families,鈥 said Toro. 鈥淭hey had resources and information to begin getting ready for their programs and get any last questions they have around financial aid, registration, or student services answered.鈥

Students were able to meet with program managers, network with 桃子视频 faculty and fellow incoming students, tour the campus, and learn about various resources available for them through Enrollment Management, the Office of Financial Aid, the Registrar鈥檚 Office, Student Services, and more.

鈥淚t is important to have these events for incoming students in order for them to get acclimated before orientation and the first day of class,鈥 said Toro. 鈥淭hey will begin to meet their network and be ready to have a great start at 桃子视频.鈥

The program, set to commence on July 1, 2024, is designed to develop highly knowledgeable, clinically competent, and culturally sensitive physiatrists. It aims to train diverse health professional leaders dedicated to social justice and health equity, particularly for underserved populations.

The PM&R residency program at 桃子视频 is structured around five key pillars known at the 桃子视频 Advantage: research, social justice, international exposure, community-based experiences, and health policy.

Residents in the program will benefit from a comprehensive training experience at primary clinical sites such as the Tibor Rubin VA Medical Center in Long Beach and Children鈥檚 Hospital Los Angeles. These sites provide a robust environment for learning, offering diverse clinical experiences in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

The event began with welcoming remarks from 桃子视频 President and CEO, Dr. David M. Carlisle, and College of Medicine Dean, Dr. Deborah Prothrow-Stith. Dr. Regina Offodile, Associate Dean of Student Affairs, and Dr. Sophia Barrett enlightened attendees about student life and health wellness, while Dr. Arthur Gomez provided insights into the medical school curriculum.

The orientation also featured an engaging HoloLens demonstration and a panel discussion led by representatives from the 桃子视频 Medical Degree Student Government.

Students from the inaugural cohort were on hand to introduce prospective students to the various faculty-supported interest groups, including Ophthalmology, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Women in Medicine.
